Something came to mind when I opened my eyes this morning, and maybe you’ve had the same thought. It doesn’t happen every day, but it seems to permeate my gray matter more after a great night’s sleep.
It could be that I am the only one, but I’ve found over the years, mostly by listening to comedians who employ observational humor, and not being a very educated mope, that we are all very much alike. Otherwise, most comedians’ observations wouldn’t be funny at all.
But this isn’t meant to be funny; it’s a serious source of wonder for me.
When you are in that state between being completely comatose and the moment you decide to throw your legs over the side of the Serta to kick off your day, are there moments that you’ve ever forgotten all about your angst, troubles, and concerns?
I’ve come to think of it as a complete suspension of life’s realities: a dreamlike state that, for just moments, allows you to have zero concern about health issues, future confrontations, and yesterday’s problems.
It happens to me, and it happened this morning. I can’t put a succinct time frame on how long I’m in that mode; it’s probably only a few seconds. For that time and space, I don’t have a worry in the world.
It’s a brief relief. I like it.
And then, poof, your brain suddenly kicks into overdrive, and within milliseconds, your system of worries and concerns repopulates, and the entirety of life’s trials and tribulations, albeit our personal reality, becomes clear.
It must be that way when we sleep, or we would never rest, you know? But being awake prior to the repopulation of our worry bank is a gift. It gives us a glimpse of how our brains can shut down, allowing us to take a break from all of that during our nightly rest.
I don’t think I’ve explained it as well as many could, but does this happen to you?
I think it’s God’s way of letting us rest, take a break, and be free of care in the world, showing us, for a millisecond, what Heaven might be like.
“Not a worry in the world,” might have been the quote penned after such an epiphany, but I just don’t know.
I know, I sound crazy this morning. Trust me, I’ve always been nuts, so it’s nothing new for me. I’m just wondering, and I think that’s a good place to settle in.
From the Jagged Edge of America, I remain,
TC
*I’ve been getting a few messages about where to find the link to BuyMeACoffee (the way I support this ugly habit of writing for a living). I’ll leave a link in the comments. If you have the will, the means, or the inkling, I appreciate your support for the cause. The pages (this and the website blog) will always remain free for the taking. I refuse to do a paywall, but that’s because of the ongoing generosity of the fine readers and lurkers. Thanks for that. On this platform, go to the main page and click on the yellow link to BuyMeACoffee. Easy. TC
